English Abstract

In many cases the development of a computer speech processing system depends on the natural language used. Hence systems developed for native speakers of one language may not be adaptable to the native speakers of another language. Most of the research work in speech processing has been mainly for English language. However, few research work was done for Arabic language. The necessity for extensive research work for Arabic was expressed in literature since the properties of Arabic language differ from that of English language. In this work, a linear predictive coding (LPC) analysis and synthesis system is implemented and tested for the suitable conditions of analysis and synthesis system is implemented and tested for the suitable conditions of analysis and synthesis processes to accommodate Arabic language specifications. An analysis and synthesis system developed which was designed with certain conditions to produce good quality synthesized English speech was considered and tested to synthesize Arabic speech. The results were not satisfactory. Accordingly the system was remodeled to produce good quality Arabic speech. The tested conditions were the analysis frame length, number of poles of the analysis and synthesis filters and the driving function for the synthesis filter.
