English Abstract
It is fact that the engineering consultant has an important and valuable role in construction industry in Saudi Arabia and worldwide. As soon as the level of engineering consultant performance is high in different project stages, the level of all work will also high. The present study concerns the process of the engineering consultant performance evaluation in building construction, and criteria which can be used during this process. A survey of 35 consultants, 35 contractors, and 30 owners' representatives from the Eastern Province was performed to evaluate (40) criteria which was identified from previous studies. The severity of those criteria was measured by the level of importance and was ranked according to their importance index. The study concluded that the most important criteria were: 1) Quality of design, 2) Compliance to client's requirements, 3) Quality of bid documents, 4) Recruitment, supervision and administration of site staff, and 5) Supervision of contractor.
