English Abstract
Copper is essential to the global energy transition, but future demand is expected to exceed current supply. In Saudi Arabia, the Arabian Shield is an exploration frontier, although its potential for porphyry-related copper mineralization remains uncertain because confirmed deposits are scarce and its Neoproterozoic geology is complex. This thesis develops a two-stage workflow that first compares copper-related geochemical patterns across the Arabian Shield and then applies mineral prospectivity mapping within the Ar Rayn terrane. The regional analysis used around 47,000 stream-sediment samples to evaluate copper distribution and its association with pathfinder elements. Ar Rayn showed the strongest combination of elevated copper levels, persistent copper-gold association, and weakening copper-zinc association at progressively higher concentrations. Together with its arc-related magmatic and intrusive setting, these results identified Ar Rayn as the strongest terrane for detailed evaluation. Within Ar Rayn, geological, geophysical, structural, and geochemical information was integrated across more than 112,000 spatial cells. Each cell was represented as a mineral-system graph describing relationships among magmatism, metal sources, structural pathways, and favorable host environments. An unsupervised graph-based deep learning model was trained without using mineral occurrences as labels, and two Jabal Al Utaybi occurrences were used after training as reference signatures to identify geologically similar areas. The resulting map delineated ten target areas. Comparison with a flat-feature baseline showed that the graph-based approach produced a more differentiated pattern, while independent Landsat alteration indicators provided surface support for selected targets. The workflow provides a transparent framework for prioritizing further exploration in data-sparse terranes.
