English Abstract

Smart contracts are increasingly used to automate services in blockchain-based applications, yet their practical use remains limited by weak descriptions, address-based discovery, fragmented registries, and static composition methods. This dissertation asks how smart contracts can be described, discovered, selected, and dynamically composed as reusable service components in multiparty environments. To answer this question, the study develops a three-stage blockchain-based framework. The first stage introduces the Blockchain-based Smart Contract Description Language (BSCDL), which represents technical and business metadata through an on-chain description model linked to the main smart contract. The second stage introduces the Blockchain-based Smart Contract Description Registry (BSCDR), a decentralized registry that supports publication, update, logical deletion, retrieval, filtering, keyword search, name resolution, and ranked discovery of smart contract services. The third stage introduces the Blockchain-based Smart Contract Description-enabled Composition (BSCDC), which uses ranked discovery results to form single-provider or composed-provider deals and manage confirmation, refusal, replacement, escrow, delivery acknowledgment, settlement, and refunds. The framework was implemented in Solidity and evaluated using local Hardhat and Sepolia testnet environments, supply chain case studies, a synthetic dataset of 10,768 smart contract service descriptions, and a user survey comparing manual ranking with TOPSIS-based ranking. The results show that BSCDL improves transparency, BSCDR enables practical and free consumer-side discovery, and BSCDC supports dynamic multiparty composition and reduces recurring composition cost and time compared with static composition. Overall, the dissertation demonstrates that dynamic smart contract composition requires an integrated service-oriented lifecycle linking description, discovery, selection, and enforceable composition.
