English Abstract

This thesis introduces three issues. The first issue is the formation control of homogeneous systems through Data Distribution Service (DDS) middleware. An L1 adaptive controller with the potential field technique and DDS middleware is used for the navigation of a multi Unmanned Aerial Vehicle system (UAVs). An L1 adaptive controller is used to stabilize the general equations of motion for each UAV and the potential field technique is used to formalize the followers around the leader. The exchange of data between the leader and followers is done through publisher/subscriber DDS middleware. A study of the lost information between the leader and followers is considered. The second issue is the containment control of homogeneous systems through DDS middleware. The Data Distribution Service middleware, L1 adaptive controller, and graph theory technique are utilized for the navigation of the UAVs. The L1 adaptive controller is utilized as a local controller for each UAV and the graph theory approach is utilized to constitute the followers inside their leaders. Finally, the DDS Middleware is used to exchange data between the followers and their leaders. Some comparison between the L1 adaptive controller and the back-stepping controller is addressed. The third issue is the formation and containment control of heterogeneous systems through DDS middleware. The flocking technique and the L1 adaptive controller with an actuator time delay (modified L1 adaptive controller) are designed to handle the navigation of multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicle systems (UAVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicle systems (AUVs). The modified L1 controller is used as a local controller for stabilizing the dynamic model of each UAV and AUV, the flocking approach is used to coordinate the followers around/inside their leader/leaders, and the data distribution services (DDS) middleware is utilized for the data transmission between the agents and for solving the interoperability issue between the UAVs and AUVs. Robust adaptation of the L1 controller makes the system robust with a high level of performance. Matlab simulation verified the robustness of the L1 controller. We provide stability proofs using Lyapunov analysis for the framework of the system.
