English Abstract

In spite of the advancements in technology, noise cannot be entirely removed from images. For many applications, noise free images are required in order to extract important information from such images. Over the years, researchers have developed many techniques to extract noise-free images from their noise contaminated versions. Many of the techniques have been based on classical image processing methods. Most of these methods suffer from their inability to preserve important features of the images such as edges, stepped regions, etc. They also tend to smooth out the denoised image. Despite these known shortcomings, these algorithms were considered the state-of-the-art denoising algorithms until recently. The recent successes of \gls{dl} in many areas such as computer vision, natural language processing, image processing, etc. have seen the performance of these state-of-the-art denoising algorithms challenged and surpassed. In this work, we developed a collaborative denoising algorithm to address the aforementioned shortcomings. The performance achieved by this algorithm and the success of \gls{dl} inspired us to extend the algorithm using \gls{dl}. The performance achieved by this version of the algorithm addressed many of the shortcomings and also gave hints to possible future improvements.
