English Abstract
A Fuzzy Logic (FL)-based PID self-tuning regulator is presented in this thesis. The basic concept behind the new scheme is to combine the classical PID control with the knowledge-based Fuzzy Logic technology. The PID controller regulates the process, while the FL part adjusts the PID gains. The scheme is also extended to handle processes with long dead times which commonly exist in many processes. This is accomplished by merging the proposed FL based self-tuning scheme with a dead-time compensation algorithm. Finally, the proposed algorithm will be used to improve the performance of some of the loops that contain known non-linearities by combining a Gain Scheduling algorithm with the FL-based PID self-tuning scheme.
